Join Kate Shields for a Plus Size Yoga series designed to promote a body positive experience for all students.  In this 6-week series, Kate will offer postures, breath work and meditation techniques that are ideal for the plus-size student.  Whether this is your first yoga series, or have an existing practice, you will find these classes approachable, challenging and targeted for bodies of all shapes and sizes.  Modifications will be offered for each pose so that students may find greater support or move toward greater challenge as appropriate. Join us for a body positive yoga experience and prepare to learn, play and grow!

Having volunteered to be a friend’s yoga guinea pig during her teacher training, I tried practicing yoga for the first time. Little did I know that it was a small step in a very big direction. It was a very difficult time in life and I realized that at the toughest points, I always turned to yoga to work out some frustration, heartaches, or just to settle the mind down after a busy day at work. Exploring different studios and teaching styles, I’m honored to have practiced with many yoga instructors in the Chicago suburbs including Meggan Riley, Ross Rayburn, Rachel Grundner, Pavla Haluskova, among many others – each having a deep impact in their own way on my practice. Also influential in my journey is Dr. Indu Arora, who led a 21 day trip to India with 20 other yogi’s looking to gain a deeper knowledge of not just yoga, but India and it’s culture. Through practicing yoga and the life changing trip to India, I realized it was time to go deeper and take the next step to become a yoga instructor to share my passion for the practice and to share the peace and balance it brings to my life with those who need it.  I am currently completing my 200-Hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training as an apprentice under Shine instructor, Meggan Riley.
