As young athlete and relentless exercise junkie, my body was in poor condition by the time I reached my early twenties. Hard was never hard enough, and I pushed through workouts without care for proper form and a perfectionist ideal of what my body should be until I was sidelined by excruciating knee pain. Hoping to release the tight hip flexors at the root of my injury, I began practicing yoga. The changes in my body were immediate. My pain lessened, my strength increased, and my mind became clear.
This was the start of my regular yoga practice through which I found a much healthier image and understanding of my body. After I embraced movement for good health and overall wellness, my entire world shifted. I began yoga to heal an injury and I ended up healing my heart. I couldn’t wait to share this powerful practice with others.
I received my Yogafit certification in October 2010 and am currently enrolled in my 200-hour yoga teacher training focused in the style of Baptiste power yoga. My goal as an instructor is to lead students through a safe and uplifting practice. Focusing on form before flow, I first stress the importance of proper alignment and then find joy in breath and fluid movement. I love incorporating music into my home practice and pride myself on creative playlists for class.
I believe our bodies are our greatest gift and our health our most powerful tool. I will forever be a student first, and teacher second. I welcome feedback in class- and love pose or song requests! If I can in any way help to facilitate the change in others’ lives that yoga helped me to create in mine then I have achieved greatness.
Off of my mat, I almost always break for garage sales, love reading just about anything I can get my hands on, enjoy cooking yummy vegetarian and vegan cuisine, travel with my husband as often as our bank account will allow, and take long snuggle sessions with my black lab Kingston.
